Any car finish enthusiasts in the building?
I used to hand wash and wax my motorcycle. I never found any issue with having to use a little extra elbow grease as I had the correct compounds for scratch removal to final polish. (s100 total cycle cleaner + Perfect-It rubbing compound = beauty)
Now that I'm tired of paying to maintain the BMW, I spent all Sunday detailing it.
Pressure wash followed by a hand wash of every panel. I then proceeded to hand buff any noticeable scuffs and scratches followed by a hand polish. I hand cleaned the tires and wheels as well and the door, hood, and trunk jambs.
That took entirely way too long. (But it looked better than the day I bought it)
Years ago I used a cheap Black & Decker orbital polisher, but prefer to avoid those due to edge burn and being a single action.
I'm looking at the Torq brand by Chemical Guys as they are purpose built... They have decent reviews but the 1 stars are concerning.
Of course there are other brands; Presa, Flex, Porter Cable, TCP, Meguiars makes one, Harbor freight, Makita, Ingersoll, etc... Pretty much every power tool manufacturer makes a polisher.
I tend to lean toward 3M compounds from experience more than anything else.
I'm looking to finish what I started next weekend with a deep polish and I'm feeling antsy... First I'll clay it in the morning then I'd like to power polish it .
Does anyone have an opinion one way or another before I take a stab in the dark?
- try having kids then you'll stop giving a crap about all the scratches and dings that (they) get on your car. lolkona
- watched my 8 year old just yesterday put a 8" scratch down the side of my car with the handle of his razor scooter.kona
- jokes aside. i take my car to a guy once a year who details it unbelievably well. i'll message him to see if he has any tips and what he uses.kona
