In Illustrator, set your type (with a curved path if you like, since your sketch looks that way).
Then outline it.The go to Effect > 3D > Extrude and Bevel.
Play around with the settings. But basically keep the angle face-on but tilted up slightly so you can see the underside of the type and extrude the hell out of it.
Once you have it how you like it, then Expand the whole lot, you might need to re-colour the face of each letter as it will be affected by the lighting etc.
V quick and dirty but you can always clean it up in PS
