lol at guns being used simply because they're owned. It's not worth going into the statistics of gun ownership and crime once again, but i will say that the large population of gun owners are legal eagles with no crimes reported under the use of so many guns. Then there's suicide, then there's criminal use... the side that gets all the attention.

My gun is in my glovebox, 5ish years I've owned it. Never once shot it. Cleaned it and reloaded it several times. I can totally see why I should give up that responsibly owned firearm because a nutjob misused his. :/

How many knives need to kill? How many cars need to kill? How many whatever need to kill before the vocal minority start making demands that affect the whole? Apparently we've reached peak firearm... Blah blah blah, cars aren't meant for that, who cares? it causes death.

Are we preventing death or banning guns? Change the education behind gun ownership, change the way mental health is approached, because carpet legislation that appeases one side will invariably enrage the other.

this quote on tolerance applies to both sides when the discussion becomes that of absolutes...

Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.

    • Agreed. I'm going to get shit for saying it but you should go to the range and practice every so often. 5 years is a long time for muscle memory.GM278
    • I think people are mainly outraged at how easy it is to get military grade weapons. I can just about see the argument for a pistol or a hunting rifle. Butfadein11
    • automatic assault rifles? Haven't heard a single reasonable reason for their legal status.fadein11
    • ^100% agree. There is absolutely no scenario that I can think of where a civilian can justify having a military grade weapon.GM278
    • Same here, fadein - the older I get, the less I give a shit about another country's gun ownership.. but automatics? Cmon.detritus
    • My rule of thumb: Could I be trusted with one? If 'no', then illegal.detritus
    • America will always have loads of guns. It might be the way that the society is structured that leads people to believe they need them.PhanLo
