So my youngest is 13 and she is a badass in band. She's going in to High School this year and we promised her a new trumpet.

Holy shit I didn't know they were so expensive! The one the school recommends is a Pro Model Yamaha @ $2,500.00

There is a more intermediate one at $1,500.00.

FML but I want her to have the best...

    • Surely there's a healthy market in decent second hand trumpets - old ones especially? (*has no idea what he's on about - talking out of ass :)detritus
    • damn!!!! That is mucho monies! Second hand option has to be out there for a least some money savings.capn_ron
    • lease at first. that's what i did. https://www.long-mcq…Gnash
    • I paid $19/monthGnash
    • I would buy a used one, there's so many kids who give up playing after just a year, you can find a lot in immaculate conditionmoldero
    • I had a $2500 sax as a kid I played throughout school and this was around 30 years ago, instruments are bank.moldero
    • She has been playing for four years with a cheap used one and has been first chair two years in a row. She's shooting for USC marching band. She is serious.HijoDMaite
    • and cool too, don't let her down with some cheap stuff :) i mean it also says how much you value her talent and commitmentsted
    • First chair... shooting for USC Marching band... fuck, hijo... spend that money... seems like you won't even notice it's gone given how good she probably is. :)PonyBoy
    • I'm a little one-sided here though... I too was first chair trumpet at that age and saved for a nicer piece... it was worth it. Does her HS march / compete?PonyBoy
    • I never had a boy to play in the NFL, so I make her practice like a slave. LolHijoDMaite
    • Buy her the expensive one. Guilt her into greatness for all you had to sacrifice. Works like a charm.shellie
    • Convince her not to play music. It's gonna ruin her life. I know so many musicians and they're all broke mofos! Lolpango
    • if you've already established that she's serious then go for the good one. it makes a diff.Gnash
    • lol pango. I already learned that lesson. My other kid wanted to be a teacher and I said some stupid shit to her about that decision.HijoDMaite
    • My instrument cost a fortune, couldn't afford to buy it so leased it for years. but it made a differenceGnash
