One big problem with current media is the ownership consolidation experienced over the past few decades. The US president pulling press credentials for a few major media outlets provides a good opportunity for smaller more independent organizations to step in.
The best thing that could happen for a free press is to expand the market beyond GE, News-Corp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, and CBS.
- Any comment on the fact that the outlets blocked from access are the same agencies investigating Trump-Russia connections?BuddhaHat
- "In 1983, 90% of US media was controlled by 50 companies; today, 90% is controlled by just 5 companies."IRNlun6
- Why is that relevant? Does that stop them from investigating Trump-Russia allegations?IRNlun6
- oh man this post could easily be confused as a direct endorsement of alt right media like breitbart and infowarsmonospaced
- So, no comment then? Any comment on Trump's position of the press being 'the enemy of the American people?'BuddhaHat
- And do you seriously think Trump's motivation in kicking out the news orgs that challenged him was to diversify media ownership?yuekit
- if you can't see the relevance to that connection, IRNI, then you're either too stupid to be having this conversation, or your party affiliation blinds youBuddhaHat
- Why Fox news is not banned then?zaq
- you probably support the elimination of Net Neutrality protections as well, yes? because that will really help fight consolidation?BuddhaHat
- i'd like to hear your rationale on thatBuddhaHat
- It's actually pretty amazing the far-fetched explanations you will hear from Trump supporters in trying to rationalize Trump's bullshit.yuekit
- I said it was a good opportunity. The companies that where pulled was likely because of 24/7 shit-stirring.IRNlun6
- "shit stirring" = reporters doing their jobyuekit
- He just doesn't like that those news agencies replay him rambling like a moron, while pointing all his lies with other unedited clips.monospaced
- No, it's endless bullshit like dozens of stories claiming Trump is a secret op for the Russian government with zero evidence.IRNlun6
- Sounds like some of you all who point to Brietbart, Prison Planet or Fox are just upset that your preferred news outlets where singled out.IRNlun6
- But there is an investigation going on into ties to Russia. You're saying the media shouldn't report on that? Why did Trump fire his national security advisor?yuekit
- Alternative media isn't always better. It's delusional to think that Breitbart is a better news source than the New York Times. They don't even really do anyyuekit
- They're free to act as bias and opinionated as they want. Don't be surprised that they won't get the access they think they deserve for being so biased.IRNlun6
- real reporting, it's just repeating the news from other sources with a tabloid right wing slant. That's who Trump put in his White House, and he's supposed toyuekit
- be a good critic of the media?yuekit
- It's completely fucking laughable. Trump and his people are about a thousand times worse than the people they are criticizing as "fake news."yuekit
- 50, 100, 1000+ more media outlets has far greater chance of less bias than 5. That is my larger point.IRNlun6
- It shouldn't come as a surprise that the presidents are more preferential to outlets that put them and their policies in a better light.IRNlun6
- You have to admit the companies singled out have a massive bias against Trump. Not admitting that would be like saying Fox didn't have a bias against Obama.IRNlun6
- What comes as a surprise is our Pres is such a sad joke that he's controlling the media himself. Do you not see the hypocrisy?? Fake, but only if you disagreeformed
- Completely fine to make up blatant lies and tell the public as though it were fact. No problem there?? Is that biased reporting too?formed
- The problem is if Trump comes out and lies everyday (which he does), the media is going to call him out on it.yuekit
- If a politician lies or commits unethical acts on a greater than average basis, you would hopefully expect and want the press to come down on them more harshly.yuekit
- But for some reason people like you interpret that as "bias" -- when it's simply the press doing their job.yuekit
- omg wisely avoiding intelligent debate that may make him look even more stooooopid.fadein11
- what a gigantic, putrid stream of shit IRNI just produced in an attempt to rationalise such reprehensible behaviour from the White House. Most of it illogical.BuddhaHat
- he must be dizzy from twisting his words and his logic in so many directions...BuddhaHat
- IRNlun6 - you do know what a democracy is and what it is built on yeah?fadein11
- Your argument that having more news sources there is directly contradicting your defense of eliminating the main ones.monospaced
- preciselyfadein11
- So Trump and his merry band of cunts spend years tearing strips off Obama and only after 4 weeks he takes the huff when it's turned on him? Fuck him.face_melter
- One of the worst examples of whinging hand-waving there is. Trump is a massive, orange, arsehole and deserves every single piece of shit thrown at him.face_melter
- I see this as an opportunity for other companies to step in. If it ever went to court, these banned news orgs would likely regain access.IRNlun6
- I could care less about these news outlets, including Fox. They're owned by transnational corps that have power to influence policy and people everywhere.IRNlun6
- I'd prefer a breakup of these big companies. More options, less centralized.IRNlun6
- As people have pointed out many times, Trump banning press orgs that do a tough job reporting on him has nothing to do with that though.yuekit
- Obama didn't exclude Fox News just because they hated him. He faced them head on and never whined like a bitch or avoided them.monospaced
- Not saying this is the reason for the recent ban but... https://pbs.twimg.co…IRNlun6
