Freelance gig in the US where I'll be hiring some help - haven't done this before. Should I reach out to an accountant about how to pay out this person & pay taxes in the future. If I hire someone and write them a 1099, etc. Haven't done this before and I'm just a sole proprietor with my freelance, no LLC or Inc.
- I think you give a 1099 when your contract rate is over $XXXX amount. Any business savies around?Hayoth
- yep... 1099 them for anything over $600.
You may want to file for that LLC... it's cheap and a nice umbrella to protect you personally just-in-casePonyBoy - Good start, thanks. Of course I didn't google shit, I just figured I'd post here and take it from there. Many thanks...whatthefunk
- Filing for an LLC is not cheap in California (800 dollars). Expect more paperwork and a higher tax preparation bill.studderine
- I hired someone last year. I'm a freelancer and I just issued them a 1099. I'll use that to reduce my tax-able income last year.studderine
- hmmm... well... fuck california :)
(it's only $50 here, studdy... COME HOME!!!)PonyBoy - over $599bklyndroobeki
- I hired a freelancer 2 years ago. Sole proprietor here (NYC). Can hook you up with my tax guy if you have questions. It was a seamless process. No 1099 for thembklyndroobeki
- @Stud: so you're just a sole proprietor and used the 1099 as a loss when you did taxes?whatthefunk
- @bkd - thanks man, I got a guy I've used for awhile but wanted to inquire here first. Appreciate it...whatthefunk
