What happens if someone gives away a font for free and after 6 years starts asking for money?

    • nothing?uan
    • outcome depends on what license terms he gave it for free...and if he didn't cover any future changes in it...nothing can happen I guess.uan
    • and if he wants to fight or something...just use another font, problem solved...or you appreciate the work and pay some money to keep using it.uan
    • like good karma shit. maybe he needs the money now and realized the font is wildly useful to some ppl. and wants some recognition in $$ for it...uan
    • it was free for all use in 2010 now he changed the terms :) it's part of a logo for a large-ish dev company and he wants to get paid per appearance lol.sted
    • if the logo was done 2010, you should be fine. but get a lawyer to fight this. it probably depends on the country he sues, but normally you can't change terms..uan
    • Part of a logo? Make very slight changes to it.i_monk
    • ....retrospectively.uan
    • also...change the logo, and get paid for a subtle redesign ;-) but don't tell him and roll out the redesign in small quiet steps.uan
    • Most "free" fonts are licensed for personal use only. Need to pay for commercialGnash

    • ^ the last link. if the logo provided to you client was without the software then sounds like they don't need the license.Gnash
    • i believe the most he can ask for is what the current cost of the font.Gnash
    • and even if you're client used the font software, they would just need to buy a comm license as wellGnash
