And the "boycott train" continues to build momentum. Does anyone see a pattern here?

I don't recall any member of Congress boycotting Obama’s inauguration, do you? In fact, the possibility never even came up, publically. What the Democrats are doing this week is unprecedented in US post Civil War presidential history. (I don’t know of any boycotts in the run up to the Civil War).

Lewis skipped Bush inaugural too, said he was not president

But this is also part of a pattern. Lewis and Lee, along with some other Democratic lawmakers at the time, also boycotted to make a point when President George W. Bush was inaugurated in 2001. The Washington Post reported at the time that Lewis "thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush's swearing-in because he doesn't believe Bush is the true elected president."

    • questioning the legitimacy of an election ≠ a difference in political positionBuddhaHat

    • and if you perceive the election as illegitimate, then you're not really attending an inauguration are you, you're attending a farce, a sham, a con, a lie. no?BuddhaHat

    • I would prefer the people I voted to congress show up and fight, versus being passive aggressive and cowardly under the guise of making their voices heard.instrmntl
    • I would be interested to see if there was vocal protest by Dems at the inauguration, and how quickly they would be barreled out of the area by securityBuddhaHat
    • Would be cool if they dressed up like they were going to a funeral in emo goth wear.instrmntl
    • isn't it funny how liberals hold the presidency in such a high, classy regard, when 99% of their own lives look like shit.vero_vandal
