    More on Illustrator...

    If you're using a wacom with illy, and working fast, you don't always select all the text in the input boxes for font sizes etc.

    So you enter a number for a font size, maybe 32 - and you've left a 'x' in the box from where it previously had "16 px".

    It would take maybe 1 or two lines of very basic code to just parse out the users inputted text for any un recognised characters or units sizes. I have coded such an input box in flipping Action Script 1 back in the day. So why can\t the adobe team do that?

    Because it's still running code from the 1990's and all adobe do is shove another useless feature or gimmick into it, rather than polish and refine their softwares.
