Five-day-old poll. But fascinating to think about. I think the big question of this cycle is going to be whether the Republicans change in the face of a Trump loss. Will they finally give up on supply-side economics/tax cuts for the rich, and recast themselves as a populist party supporting working people? Because if they really think Mike Pence is the future face of the party, that means they don't really believe their "big tent" rhetoric.

Put it this way, if they ignore the autopsy like they did last time, they won't survive as a party. They will be two parties.

I already know they'll continue being the party that doesn't believe government can do anything...but it's a really deep split between being the party of "makers" and "job creators" and being a party of the working man. I don't think right-leaning working people are gonna go for the big tax cuts for the wealthy and powerful anymore.

    • Well, let's say the GOP splits...becomes the Whigs on the one side and the Tea Party on the other. If the Whigs come up with a reasonable centrist, you couldallthethings
    • imagine the centrist GOPers who are supporting HRC to shift back to the Whigs. Or, because she's a centrist herself, maybe the Dems keep some of them?allthethings
    • And, because the left won't like her being a centrist, maybe she gets challenged from the left again in 2020. There are lots of ways the GOP can recover....butallthethings
    • I think they have to recast themselves to do it.allthethings
