This is one of, if not my favorite topic when it comes to characters in movies. I really hate the idea of traditional good guy, bad guy stereo-types. The truth is everyone is both, one mans hero is another ones monster. No one is without sin.

The key is to find someone thats so bad, he can never be seen as good, not 100%. They have redemption in some way... but their sins are so bad they can never be pure.

Honestly the best example right now is Game of Thrones, how many people have you absolutely hated at some point, only to feel for them. Jamie, Theon, shit Ramsey was a likable guy in the beginning he was on the Starks side avenging them from Theons betrayal.

With that being said here a couple thoughts on the subject:

    - Training Day: I absolutely love this character. One of my top 5 movies of all time. The guy who wrote it likes to play with this scenario. BUT, you have it wrong. In training day, he was never good. He was evil and stayed evil. He was a great example of a manipulator, no moral and soulless. Love how he draws you in as a friend, even when it was all in the open, he still brings you in.

Any way, a better example would be Street Kings, Reeves character was a pretty conflicted guy. Does bad shit, but you feel for him and is essentially good.

    - Payback with Mel Gibson. They sell you Porter as a bad guy, but really he has a heart of gold. Cares for his wife, rescues the hooker he loves.

    - Good, Bad and Ugly: I mean Tuco and Blondie are essentially bad guys that are just not as bad as Angle Eyes.

    - Bad Santa: Movies like this are too easy.

Bad to good is easy, its good to bad where it gets fun.

The one story I love is the original "I AM LEGEND"
Like the movie theres a guy who survives some crazy outbreak, but its more like vampires. Anyway, as the sole surviver he hunts them and tries to eliminate these monsters... but it turns out he's the monster. Because the world is full of vampires, they are the natural in habitants of earth... and he comes to their homes at night and kills them in their sleep. They're scared of him and children hear stories of him. He is the bad guy.

    Its fucking fantastic.

One mans hero, is another ones monster. ;)

    • Are you talking about the Omega Man?Ianbolton
    • One mans hero, is another ones monster is great because that is what life is all about. We think we are all angles. But we trample on ants under our feet...HAYZ1LLLA
    • ...murder cows to eat, make poor children sew our trainers and destroy the planet to get to work quickly.HAYZ1LLLA
