I'm about to pull my fuckin hair out. How do you guys do it??

Trying to price out photo shoots is driving me crazy. All googling does is confuse me more. I've got senior portraits, cougar wants beach photos, cheap wedding, expensive wedding, headshots...

For example this girl wants to send her 4 year old daughter's headshots to Hollywood, but do I ask her exactly what she wants or do I just tell her that I charge X for X.

    1. I take about 40 50 images pick the top 10 and they pick their favorite 3 and then I retouch them and have them printed out.
The rest I put on a CD color and black and white. Low -res in jpeg format?

    2. Or do I take 40-50 images then my client gets them all.. They get the large JPEG files and a smaller group of JPEG's for web use. All on a CD with full rights?

    or

    3. Do I do 1 look for $100, 2 looks for $150, 3 looks for $200 etc..

    • I dont charge by look I charge by time. I charge by time. They can change into 100 looks for all I care. If they can fit all into the time they are paying for.pango
    • They pay for time per hour. 3 free touched photos per hour. They pay for additional touches photo.pango
    • do what you want. sell your value anyway you choose.deathboy
    • I use a sliding scale of how much I want to do something > how little I want to do something then charge accordinglysinjun

    • ^ this chick has been the go-to head shots photog in toronto foreverGnash
    • while her pricing looks cheap, she makes a ton from being incredibly organized. she schedules shot days and may shoot 8-12 clients/dayGnash
    • she has a deal with a printer who takes over the 'print' portion of the transaction of which she takes a cutGnash
    • nice gnash thanks!HijoDMaite
    • she'll shoot one head shot, one 3/4, and maybe a full body. each with a different backdrop or against a feature wall (brick, worn wood, ect)Gnash
    • don't over think it -- she reuses the same lighting/backgrounds etc -- each client doesn't need to be unique.Gnash
