15+ Years and 147,000 miles ... finally had to say my goodbyes.

    the new Road Warrior.

    • great car... it'll probably go another 100k+ miles. It's now a perfect starter for some pimply teenager to get their first handjob in :) (ah... memories...)PonyBoy
    • unfortunately 147,000 is where I was in need of a new transmission .. I was looking at $4,000 - 5,000.Ramanisky2
    • cant complain though .. 10+ years without a car payment .. she was a beast.Ramanisky2

    • what did you do that it needs a new tranny?yurimon
    • nothing really. it started doing these weird shifting ticks last week on the interstate during heavy traffic with a lot stop and go.Ramanisky2
    • and would shake when I came to a complete stop like it was going to shut the engine off but it didn't, thank god.Ramanisky2
    • ug, you changed the oil often? pretty rare for a honda to go this way. unless there was something wrong with the oil, id consider this a defect if everythingyurimon
    • was done by the book. ever remove and check the tran filter pan? thing about changing things like a tranny is a gamble for it to work flawless with a new one.yurimon
    • every 3,000 miles ... every time I took the car just for an oil change they always ended up changing/replacing filters.Ramanisky2
    • I spent a few hundred a year for maintenance ... it is 2001 after all and after 15 years even at the fairly low mileage i put on it, things can & will go bad.Ramanisky2
    • no the transmission oil, fluid sorry...yurimon
    • tranny has a filter built into the pan, but usually it enough to just change the fliud. you have to use the honda brand fluid with a maintenance schedule.yurimon
    • very rare for it to fail if everything was working with honda fluid change maintenance . you use a parking brake when parking on an incline?yurimon
    • i consider this a defect if a honda fails below 300k milesyurimon
    • NO, NEVER CHANGE TRANNY FLUID IN AN OLD CAR. NO !!!!!!111terry_cloth
    • not according to hondas maintenance shcedge. those cars love new oil. i'm wondering if ram changed by the book or used honda brand fluid.yurimon
    • I went to place that was close to work the last 3 yrs .. it was just more convenient than going to the dealership. but maybe you're rightRamanisky2
    • tranny fluid basically never needs to be changed, atf and oil are very different topics. plenty an d car has shit the bed after some douche at jiffy lube upsellterry_cloth
    • -s someone on a completely unjustifiable atf swapterry_cloth
    • *an old carterry_cloth
    • you should check if they put honda fluid. honda is strict on their tran formula. there is somewhat of an equivalent but its really not recommended.yurimon
    • only thing thats acceptable is the synth engine oil to be another brand. every other fluid if it was me based on their recommends would be honda brandyurimon
    • terry, this wouldn't apply to all cars? fluid clearly becomes discolored, or browns.yurimon
    • Yes, it applies to all cars, don't fuck with your tranny fluid, if it gets low top it off, otherwise don't fix what isn't broken when it comes to your atfterry_cloth
    • ehh ehh mmm mmm yeah yeah ehh
      tranny fluid ,,,,
      mmm mmm yeah ehh ehh
      Ramanisky2
    • lol, seriously though, don't mess with an old car's atfterry_cloth
    • i dont know terry, id say true for american cars and few exceptions but alot of 300k honda users do recommended fluid changes by the book.yurimon
    • when your tranny shits the bed after a full flush those honda users are going to be nowhere to be foundterry_cloth
    • under no circumstances honda recommends the full machine flush. they say it is harmful. only drain and change the fluid. changes the fluid, mixes whats in theyurimon
    • pan with mostly new fluid, but it has to be honda brand stuff. its diff from the market stuff though people try to get equivalent, its not recommendedyurimon
