I finally upgraded my DSLR body to a Rebel T5. Not too exciting by today's standards, but a major step up from my circa 2005 Rebel XT. I do think it has a noticeable difference in the quality of images it produces.

I don't use it that often, but when I do I'm still shooting primarily with my f/1.8 50mm prime lens.

I've learned that it's really hard to get crisp photos when opened all the way up to that 1.8 aperture. The depth of field is just too damn small. So I generally set it to around 2.8 unless I really need the extra light.

I want to get this lens:

I think that one will be a great all-arounder that will make me want to shoot more. The 50mm is hard to shoot with indoors or in tight spaces due to the 1.6 magnification ratio. And it doesn't really work for anything other than portraits.

    • yea, with that 1.6 crop makes for a decent portrait lens tho.jaylarson
