got canned for breach of contract today because of a skype conversation i had outside of work on my own hardware/time etc. the convo included talk to future side work making a website for a upcoming media company with an ex employee who was let go (layoff) a month ago, general chat talking about leaving my current job and my active search for a new job. said ex employee doesnt have a personal skype but used his fucking old work skype account from the job he got laidoff from (same company i work for). apparently boss scored a full printout of the conversation and tossed it on my desk this morning.
boss gave me a paragraph endorsement on LinkedIn 2 hrs later
- i think i was set up but whatever..new chapter, new challenges, new goalspockets
- yes. and move on. If you were not on probation, make sure that you get a paper from them about that you don't owe shit and you leave by mutual consentsted
- didnt you just get this job?yurimon
- 4 months ago. did about 2hrs of work in a 8 hour shift daily, sometimes lesspockets
- Why? How did he print convo, does Skype have Corp accts? We all work side jobs in this biz.Hayoth
- they can monitor/record convos with corporate accounts? Skype sounds shittymoldero
- just has to login with that account to see the previous conv.(or watch it live :)sted
- That's a shitty way to go...pango
- That you're being monitored like this at work is frightening. Evidence you shouldn't want to work for them, anyway. Fuck them.Continuity
- Well, actually, not at work ... you were on your own time and kit. That's even more fucking scary. Cunts.Continuity
- sue him for breach of privacy_niko
- ^/< right there.Continuity
- you could have talked to him about, whats the breach of contract again?yurimon
- I'd be pissed at the guy that used the biz account. That's company property. You could probably talk to a lawyer, tho, as you were essentially wire tapped w/oformed
- your consent (recorded, really).formed

- I'd check the legal side of things.
They cant monitor you on your own time, with your own hardware. Check if you can't get unfair dismissal claim against them.mugwart - They can monitor you on their hardware. Of course they can.monospaced
- mono, the hitch in this story is that all of the events transpired on his personal hardware, not the company's.Continuity
- I think the legal gateway here is that the other guy used his old skype account, which if paid by the company can be monitored. however the conversation notyurimon
- done on company time, hardware is a grey area. the breach of contract he was saying needs more detail for us to make a comment.yurimon
