    I guess this is also the de facto Black Lives Matter thread, so I'll put this here.

    I think that BLM activists would do well to frame the movement as a movement against poverty and for education, rather than a movement against police violence. But I think that the indiscriminate, flagrant, and gratuitous violence perpetrated by police AND our criminal justice system in general, is so outrageous, that people are very liable to be outraged BY it.

    The 30 second, ghastly videos that go viral are a shocking illustration of the violence underlying (or maybe entrenching) the poverty we would otherwise ignore as humdrum reality.

    Because people rally around this videos, BLM appears to be a movement against police violence, rather than a movement against black poverty and inequality, much to its detriment.
