On my lunch break today I was walking along the road and on the other side was an old man and his big rather old looking shaggy haired dog. He grabbed my attention because he had the whole pavement to himself yet was walking strangely close to the wall, with the dog in between him and the wall. I thought to myself... "give the dog some room you cunt".

Then I saw him stop and it looked like he applied his weight on the dogs head, crushing the dog between himself and the wall.

I thought this was fucking odd so I turned back, crossed the road and started to follow him. I only had to wait about 20 seconds before he stopped again, squeezing the dogs head between himself and the wall, and this time punching the dog rather aggressively in the head four or five times.

I ran over and asked him what the fuck he was doing. He mumbled that the dog was "pulling on the lead". I said "yea, dogs do that... why the fuck are you punching him?". He started to walk off...

I followed and asked him if he'd like me to punch him in the head and see how he likes it... then said that if I see him hitting the dog again I'll call someone to have it taken away from him.

Anyway I followed him for another 5 minutes but obviously he knew I was there so didn't do anything further. I mulled over what on earth I could do... Could I call the police? If I did, how would I update them on the new location as he was walking away from me? Do I call the RSPCA? If they come and I say he hit the dog and he said he didn't, what are they going to do? Take the dog away from him there and then?

I pondered this for a while and decided to leave it. As I walked off the swear the dog looked back at me with "help me" eyes. I walked off and welled up, became emotional and had tears... which doesn't happen very often. I'm not sure I did the right thing by letting him go, but I didn't really know what the fuck to do....
