To Georges & Cygnus and anyone else railing against BLM:

You might want to take a moment to consider that BLM started as a movement to address inequality in the justice system – NOT to address the number of cops killing black people. Specifically, it came from a growing concern that when cops (and others) kill black people, these killings are much less likely to be properly investigated, charged, or tried. There are almost no convictions. So, when you bring up "black-on-black" murder every time you talk about BLM, you're missing the point.

For example, when Eric Garner was killed by police, there was video of the entire event. Police accused him of selling loose cigarettes, he denied it. Regardless, his alleged "crime" did not warrant his death. One cop used an illegal chokehold, and Garner said "I can't breathe" eleven times. The police union said that a chokehold wasn't used, although everyone has seen the video. Anyway, the medical examiner ruled Eric Garner's death a homicide. This cop was given a secret trial which can not be scrutinized by the public and was transferred to a desk job.

Obviously there are lots of angry and confused people involved with BLM. BLM has indeed attracted all kinds of people, many of whom say inflammatory things or make claims that go against the original BLM position. However, no amount of crazy BLM people can diminish the fact that the police are not being held accountable for their actions, particularly when it comes to their actions against black suspects.

Currently, there are many black people who are afraid that, if they get pulled over or stopped by a cop, they might get killed. Statistically it is extremely unlikely that they would be killed by a cop, and therefore one can easily argue that these fears are unwarranted. Here I would agree: the fear that people have of police doesn't reflect reality. However, please try to consider how important it is for a free country that all citizens should not feel afraid of being killed by the police during a traffic stop or even when they are suspected of a crime.
