In addition to what I said above, having even the most basic front-end development skills is definitely a nice-to-have, regardless of your objective in cultivating them. It makes you able to collaborate more closely with developers (if you work in teams), as well as allows you to be able to judge artwork for technical feasibility in the run of a project, from first concept to execution.
