    For inspiration and reference, look at *everything* other than the work you do and learn why the world looks how it looks - it's a lot more interesting than you think.

    One of the main things I tell the people I have instructed who are learning the job (arch-viz / 3D). Looking at other architectural CG work gets you nowhere - for technical problem-solving, yes, but for inspiration? Forget it. I know folk in the job who are deep into the technical side - advanced rendering, maths, all that piss and man, their images are glossy and nice but boring as shit - I don't give a fuck how you rendered the grass. Film and photography are my main go-to's for image reference - everything from Olivia Wilde fashion shoots in Harper's to stills from Escape From New York - it's all good. You may not use it directly, but it all sits in your head.
