    Ram,

    I had a very similar situation and my bills are almost the same. Your insurance company should have sent you an 'explanation of benefits' that shows what the hospital billed the insurance company, the discount you receive for having insurance and the 'member responsibility' (your out of pocket cost).

    The hospital did what's called 'balance billing' which I think is a way to scam individuals who aren't aware. It takes about 3 weeks for your insurance company to pay the claims to the hospital but in the mean time you should have received your benefits claim..

    If you did get your explanation of benefits fax the hospital bill to the insurance carrier and they will handle it to get the statement altered.
