A couple of weeks back, I woke up with stomach ache/cramp ... possible food poisoning, maybe passing a stone, it hurt all day for 2 days straight ... just a constant pain 24/7... but no diarrhea and no vomiting ... so I go to the emergency room (I have a primary doc now, of course) anyways, they run some tests .. urine, blood, x-ray ... 5-hrs later I go home with 2 sets of antibiotics and 1 set of Hydro-condone, for what the physician say's is just a minor infection. I take antibiotics as prescribed and pain is gone the next day. Great.

and then comes the bill ... apparently they didn't get my insurance info that night.

    so here's an itemized list.

of course I knew the CT Scan was going to be expensive as fuck .. but DYUMMM.

there was also a separate bill for $630 for the the 2 physicians that took care of me that night.

so a grand total of $8,312.79 ... ouch.
    Insurance better get this right.

    • couldnt they determine the problem without the ct scan? I go to the dr and usually the ct scan is last if everything else fails to detect an infection.yurimon
    • they ran blood, urine and an x-ray ... the only thing that was off was that my white blood cell count was elevatedRamanisky2
    • but that was due to the infection ..
CT Scan was the last thing they did.
that included a dye injection into my body which felt very strange indeed.

    • I had an op a month ago. GP, consultant and a surgeon. I was out in a day with a bag of free pain meds. Back at work in three. The UK NHS is amazing.monoboy
    • We spread the cost with national insurance contributions. Why anyone would want to break it up for a system like yours just to make profit baffles me.monoboy
    • our system was destroyed via various methods. however most of the world still benefits from american free market innovation.yurimon
    • you cant just jump in and say without reviewing history.yurimon
    • I had kidney stones one time..the guy put me through the CT scan 3 times, because he messed up..My bill had charged me for 3 times CT scans. They tried to get..cbass99

    • True yurimon, sadly many of these innovations are used by US drug companies to extort via licensing.monoboy
    • The profit encourages more greed than innovation. The average Joe pays $400 a month in insurance for a second rate service that goes into shareholders pockets.monoboy
    • profiting like that from the sick is fucking shamefulRamanisky2
    • first of all you clowns are too much obsessed over conventional meds. there natural medicine is better for treating chronic disorders.yurimon

    • i wonder where your innovation would be if it wasnt for some relic of the free market.things get relatively more in expensive as more competition, innovation.yurimon
    • a good example is lasik, and braces. used to be expensive but these service werent controlled as much and if you compare the products from then n now.yurimon
    • you can avoid shit like this even more expensive they are more scared not to treat you as compared too glitches such as thisyurimon
