I wouldn't agree these issues of so-called morality have "halted progress", but I agree that no one should care who was blowing the president except his wife and family. It's nobody else's business. Now, if he was getting a beej from, say, another nation's foreign minister, then yes, that would be a conflict of interest.

There's a great line in the film Ides of March addressing the issue, from a campaign strategist: "If you want to be president, you can start a war, you can lie, you can cheat, you can bankrupt the country. But you can not fuck the interns. They'll get you for that."

However, there is something that we often overlook when discussing Clinton-Lewinsky: what you had here was an intern having sexual relations with her boss. This would be inappropriate in any professional environment, and is often considered to be sexual harassment. Bosses get fired over it (sometimes) and presidents should not be treated differently in this regard.

    • this is kind of surface politics.yurimon
    • No one cares what you think.nb
    • Perhaps "halted" progress is a little extreme where "slowing down" progress may be more accurate.omg

    • It doesnt bother you that out of everything whats his name has been involved with, and that the most deepest answer from a larger perspective is thatyurimon
    • it inappropriate professional environment?yurimon
    • It's called staying on-topic in a discussion instead of trying to side-track everything with whatever you have decided is most important. Fucking narcissist.nb
    • Another overlooking aspect is that they were in the confines of the President's residence at the time. Question is whether or not they were on the clock.omg
    • Wow, if no one cares what yurimon thinks why should anyone care what you think? The hypocrisy continues...drake-von-drake
    • On the clock? WTF are you talking about. There is a higher precedent set for Presidenta and he lied undwe oath, which are grounds for impeachment. Duh?!drake-von-drake
    • President / under. Fucking phonesdrake-von-drake
    • Although, I do agree with your premise nb. The law has to be abided by all. He should have been impeached. He's a fucking dirt bag.drake-von-drake
    • when should people have to explain their sexual actions, and preferences to others?omg
    • Every fucking minute you preside as president of the USA, especially when you're "married." There's a higher standard. JFK was just as bad.drake-von-drake
    • Dude, not to mention the soap opera. The tabloids went berserk, it was shameful and a complete PR nightmare. It tarnishes a relatively decent 8 yearsdrake-von-drake
    • Granted, he completely benefited from the Dot Com advent and drastically such. Right place; right time.drake-von-drake
    • all driven by people's marital beliefs and people's need to publicly shame that which is different.omg
    • Not arguing that in society itself per se, but come on in the Oval Office? It just looks bad, was bad even to other countries and allies. Opens you up.drake-von-drake
    • I would draw the line at rape, and sexual harassment as a concern. Otherwise the two consenting adults could have blossomed into a true presidential romance.omg
    • I would have lied too, in order to protect the country from the evils of shaming.omg
    • Or maybe tell the truth, to protect the country from the same evils.omg
