^ I had a 1986 Golf Cabriolet as a daily driver. It was a fun car to drive but the lack of comfort and features, esp. missing servo, A/C and the heavy clutch pissed me off really soon. But I learned how to change oil on that and do a bit here and there. I wasn't afraid of doing my own repairs. I would never do such repairs on my current car, since breaking something would be ridiculously expensive.

So maintaining it was cheap, brake pads were cheaper than on my bicycle. Insurance was normal, mileage on par with current cars (can't believe so little has changed here over the years).

Everyone else loved my car and it paid me back when I opened the roof. You will share the same experience with this car I think. After my Golf I would not drive such an old car daily.

I'd get something with power steering and climate control for everyday use.
