Probably going to get a road bike this spring, been riding a Langster for a few years now and ready to have some gears for rides with friends.

Since I live in Chicago, there are no hills here, making the Specialized Allez DSW Sprint X1 Comp pretty appealing - only a single front chainring, no front derailleur, and 11 gears in the back.

But damn... the Specialized Edition Allez X1 is an incredible looking bike. Way too much for me at $3,750 but the color scheme and wheels are making me drool.

    • Even with mild-moderate hills, 11 gears should be plenty. I rarely leave my big ring.duckseason
    • I've read some reviews saying the bike is incredibly quiet without the front derailleur. I'm so used to my fixie and it's so quiet...mg33
    • So that makes the Allez even more appealing.mg33
    • Hmmm... Hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll look into one of these. I'm sure the GF would love another bike in the apt.duckseason
    • I really think my wife would flip if I asked to buy a bike that expensive. I think my price range is up to $2K.mg33
    • And I will admit, it's the wheels that make it look so great. Wonder what a buildup from just the frame would cost, with competing wheels.mg33

    • Wheels and components are gonna be where all your cash gets dumped with an aluminum frame. Looks like you can get a similar set of wheels for around $700-1000.duckseason
    • Referring to the bottom Rovals - Specialized's inhouse wheel brand.duckseason
