The question is whether it makes sense to risk attacking their compound. The Saviors were threatening the Hilltop people but they haven't bothered Rick's community for months or years.
Raiding their compound is a big unknown...people on your side could easily die. Just for a few crops and seeds?
At one point it seemed like Rick was all about taking no chances and playing it safe, so this seemed out of character.
Also the idea that Maggie would take part in the raid even though she was pregnant, and that Glenn would go along with it, didn't make much sense.

- I'm willing to bet most of those who miss the more nuanced details also watch the show with a phone or tablet in their hand.
