The value of Graphic design, at whatever quality, is driven by its market, NOT the hopes of graphic designers.
Much like restaurant food, the customer (client) who is satisfied by a £5.00 burger meal is unlikely to value the nuances and craft of an a-la-cart menu from a Michelin starred chef. And, neither restaurant or any of those in between are likely to fail because of the others product.
A $5 logo has a place in the market. But, It's likely to be exploiting cheap labour from developing countries or, more likely, end up costing a lot more, hence 'from $5'.
We will never be able to sell a £50k identity project to a person that cannot see the value in it. So, if you are threatened by someone selling a logo for $5 then I don't think you truly understand the service you are providing or the markets you operate in.

    • You're telling me! My $10/logo business has totally dried up. Thanks, jerks.nb
    • Yes. It's all about bringing value for your client. The harder part is selling that value.formed
