I am in a local mall with a friend following a beer at a nearby restaurant / bar.

We are on our way to a local skate shop we support. We walk through a department store browsing men's apparel. Something we make a habit of, not our first time here or the bar.

I am looking, we are discussing and suddenly... a beacon of beauty is bestowed upon us. I involuntarily and shamefully lost contact with her eyes, as she asked if we could use any assistance, looking over her, trying to understood what vision stood before me.

I informed her we were only passing through as we were on our way to purchase other goods and we then left, I would say I was startledly embarrassed or emabarrasedly startled?

Either way, I felt imbecilic™ wondering why I was leaving.

Once clear of the store, we discussed the prior events both commenting on her appearance.

We make it to the skate shop, chat with the owner as we do, buy the trucks that were ordered for my friend and were on our way again.

We're a few steps out of the skate shop when my friend asks, without even looking at me; "So what are you going to buy?"

Knowing exactly what he meant, I told him I didn't know and hoped I could find a shirt I actually wanted.

We were headed back to recoup my embarrassment.

We go back through the same department store browsing again on our way out. She is there with another associate helping a customer, not ignoring us but otherwise occupied.

We wander for a few minutes. Boom, I find a shirt. I show it to my friend, he likes it too. It's on a mannequin though so we start looking around. Still no contact from either associate.

I can't find it, he finds it, asks if I want her to help find it, I say no, I want to find it in my size. We find none that are the correct size. I decide it's time to talk to them.

The two associates take down the mannequin and find it's not the correct size either, they then offer to see if another store has it. We go to the counter.

As we get to the counter, the male associate asks the vision of beauty in question if she would like the first or second weekend off in February.

With her stammering for an answer, obviously not caring one way or another, I make the statement; "Take the second, so you can enjoy a nice Valentine's Day weekend."

She replies shrugging me off, saying "I don't have any plans, there won't be any plans."

Without hesitation, before she has a chance to turn around to keep working, I ask; "Would you like to have plans?"

    She smiled so big! :D

Then her hand does that flippy thing where she is saying kinda, the "sorta maybe" hand gesture as she turns around.

My friend sees it too and we look at each other like; Oh, things just went from no to maybe.

    [screaming internally] HOLY SHIT!

The male associate leaves with the other customer to continue helping her with her item at another counter.

I motion for my friend to go elsewhere, he obliges rolling his eyes smiling as he calls his girlfriend.

I ask Helen of Troy if she's going to need to call other stores or check a computer, she says call. I say cool, thank you, then ask her name, she tells me. I say thank you again using her name, hello and introduce myself. She says hello again using my name, then says it again as she writes it down on the form.

First call, quick hang up. I tease her asking her to not give up, she laughs telling me they were busy.

Second call, they have the shirt, I know she's going to need some more information so I can be informed when it's available. This is my chance.

She says something fairly perfect for me to respond to like "I just need to ask for your number so I can call you when it's in."

My heart is pounding so hard.

I tell her my number watching her write it down so I know she is done. Then I say smiling, again without hesitation, looking her in the eye. "I actually wanted to ask you a similar question."

She smiled again and without asking for clarification, wrote her name and number on a post it then handed it to me. I said thank you and that it was nice to meet her, she said you too.

I caught up with my friend who had something to show me on his phone, so she wasn't a concern as soon as I walked away. Thank you friend, thank you.

Bonus story, last night I was at the same restaurant / bar that I mentioned on a first date about 2 hours in, with a woman who, really long crazy story, deserving of another blog post short, ended up paying for the calamari and finding herself another ride home.

    Today though? So much win.
