Started reading "Moby Dick". I don't hate it.

    • hang in there, ishmael, great book.Gnash
    • i hated itscarabin
    • but have pet cockroaches, so ya.Gnash
    • only because it seemed like a ton of technical stuff about boats and sailing that i didn't really care about. if i were into that stuff it would've been betterscarabin
    • (i was jk'ing, btw)) the homeric epics were similar. homer went into incredible detail about the ships, etc.Gnash
    • melville uses that device, among others, to give the story an epic tone.Gnash
    • yeahscarabin
    • the technical chapters are both to paint the authenticity of the voyage/occupation, and also to serve as a metaphorical framework for several themes in the bookgarbage
    • the book itself is voyage, and is an edifying work if you make it to the end.garbage
