"@imagineallthepeople - it is regularly reported here in Europe... been numerous incidents of Russian jets entering UK airspace and not being in a hurry to leave"

hm, do you have an example of planes actually entering UK airspace without approval?

I did try to find such an incident, even an accidental one, but couldn't find even a single one in the last 30 years. every report I found was in international air space, not UK airspace.

I suppose people confuse reports à la "UK typhoons scrambled to intercept Bears" with an actual incursion into or violation of sovereign airspace. the difference being, one is a perhaps annoying (but perfectly legal) show of force outside of UK territory, the other one would be a clear casus belli if it is in fact done routinely.

    • Sorry my semantics were wrong, it regularly enters airspace defended by the RAF, leading to numerous fighter scrambles... just google it, lots of example fromfadein11

    • Really not going to get into a debate on my semantics - you understnad my point - Russia has done this a million times and it hasn't been shot down which is afadein11
    • massive overreaction by a very weak nation trying to flex its muscles on the international stage.fadein11
    • not trying to nitpick, but the difference is pretty serious. RAF has the same business defending international airspace as Russia has flying around there.

    • it's a non-issue basically. people may find it worrying, I understand that. but nobody can accuse russia of violating anyone's territory...
