Weren't most great civilizations throughout history eventually overrun by barbarian tribes when they became too weak and decadent? For instance ancient Babylon or even Rome. Maybe ISIS is the modern version of this.

    • that's what they hope.Al_dizzle
    • history of empires. question is, are we capable of avoiding the fall this time? or do we go under like the ones before.uan
    • ^ if you are referring to the American empire - it has already fallen.fadein11
    • ^ what was its peak? the 50s?scarabin
    • barbarian is a misnomer because these people copied roman techniques and exploited them. isis doesn't do that.doesnotexist
    • lets be honest. when it comes down to it, america has the power to turn the middle east into a parking lot. doubt we'd lose a battle of that importance.dirtydesign
    • @dirty, that's truemonospaced
    • yea but america is not trying to take over anything, just to fight extremists doing crimes against humanity, so can't compare with the empire thing of the pastfeel
    • are you dumb? You really think USA would throw a nuclear apocalypse on every Arabic countries?? Reality is much more complicated than that.Ben99
    • An Empire take years to fall. The fall of the American Empire has begun already. Can take 100-200 years to reach the end.Ben99
    • And no country on this Planet would annihilate another country with a nuclear apocalypse just to protect itself. That would lead to a global apocalypse.Ben99
    • The rest of the World would react if, for exemple, USA annihilate the Middle East.Ben99
    • Killing many millions of civilians just because ''barbarians'' form a certain low percentage of their population. Come on.Ben99
    • FYI, about the Roman Empire, the period of decline lasted about 300 years...Ben99
    • The fall of USA is just starting on that scaleBen99
    • Rome fell largely for economic and political reasons weakening the empire and its military, not because of "decadence".i_monk
    • well... economic and political reasons could apply to USA, donshathink?Ben99
    • are you dumb? i was responding the post. and yes i do think donald trump or another war mongering president would annihilate the middle east if it came to that.dirtydesign
    • and if we (usa and allies) were in this ridiculously theoretical situation our allies would welcome it.dirtydesign
    • At this rate it'll be the French or Russians pinging tactical nukes in the Middle East, if anyone. America could never stomach it.detritus
    • Me, I'm thinking of moving to The Falklands.detritus
    • keeping in contact with Benfal on post-apocalyptic CB-Radio Frequencies, QYB-N, 2470detritus
    • might be right detritus. keep testing putin it'll happen sooner than you think.dirtydesign
    • despite the fact that the American empire is falling, ISIS will not be the reason - ISIS will be wiped out in the next 10 years, if not way sooner and with easefadein11
    • But there will likely be more of what happened last week to lead to the united action to defeat it - the US cannot defeat them alone (despite having all thosefadein11
    • weapons).fadein11
    • so individual terror cells will lead to the US failure? doubt that with all the spying we do.dirtydesign
    • I didn't say that once. America has been in decline since the 80'sfadein11
    • USA is falling becuz of ISIS and becuz many more things added together.Ben99
    • nothing to do with ISIS.fadein11
    • And no one know how to wipe out isis y'know... its not like they're all at the same place wearing the same uniform.Ben99
    • lol - but it is in relative terms a tiny organisation... if its core is broken it will disappear. Radical islam won't of course but won't be at that scale.fadein11
    • Al qaida died, isis came. Isis die, (insert name) is born... and so on. We're stuck with an ideology. You can wipe an ideology.Ben99
    • Cant wipeBen99
    • Way to dismiss the evil of radical islam and shift blame with your liberal progressive fantasy's.Hayoth
    • Who shifted any blame? who had a liberal fantasy? Just a reality. Anyone who has followed these matters for the last 20 years knows the facts. Seems like peoplefadein11
    • who know little mention liberal fantasies.fadein11
    • Saudi Arabia is the problem, but oil stops the West from dealing with it directly.i_monk
    • 'USA is falling becuz of ISIS'
      you really are dumb
