People need to stop thinking about Wordpress and Squarespace being similar systems. Squarespace is a hosted service. Wordpress you have full control.
Wordpress can look like any Squarespace theme if you know what you are doing.
Wordpress sites often look alike because devs/clients are lazy and cheap and buy readymade themes which 90% all follow the same format.
Its v.quick to learn enough to make Wordpress do what you need to do - if you know HTML and CSS and a little PHP.
