Between Ghost in the Shell and Akira, I feel that the latter shouldn't be made.

Akira's essence is structured around post war Japan after the atrocity of the atomic bombs being dropped and asiatic religious beliefs.

To rip those factors out of the original story and re-image it to flow into a European/Christian ideological system would literally diminish the original intent.

And then of course there's the fact that AKIRA is an epic masterpiece of art and expression.

On the other hand, GITS, while being a wonderful story and anime, was ahead of its time in regards to technology, robotics and theoretical data manipulation - could essentially be a standard action film.

Not to say I didn't slam my head into a brick wall when I heard that the most caucasian living actress in our known universe would be playing someone named Motoko didn't happen... But, the story itself, the essence of the story is more universal in my opinion.

So out of the two - I would say if one had to pull the trigger and make a film - GITS would be the lesser evil and AKIRA shouldn't be touched.

    • GITS and Akira are also about fears, and the ghost in the shell network fear movies were released last year, I'd rather see a new war and weapons fear movie.uan
