Is having children selfish? There are 8 billion people in the world, do we really need to keep making so many new ones? The world doesn't need more baristas and artists and office workers.

    • Yuri, you say over-population isn't an issue. Where do you draw the line? What if there were 60 billion people on Earth? Would that not cause problems?iCanHazQBN
    • You make it sounds like population can never be a problem. But it grows exponentially, so ultra high figures are possible, unless we address it now.iCanHazQBN
    • From the dawn of humanity to the year 1900 we reached 1.9B people. And in just 115 years, we went from 1.9B people to 7B people.iCanHazQBN
    • yeah we don't need more artists and barristas, we need more religious fundamentalists and stupid people which are the only ones reproducing_niko
    • Exponential growth is why it's dangerous. And it's not about physical space for humans, it's about being able to use the Earth's resources (food growth, water)iCanHazQBN
    • wisely to avoid a complete breakdown of the human race.iCanHazQBN
    • And not to mention all of the pollution billions of more people can create. Look at all the waste that's being created with just us. Imagine 3x the worlds pop.iCanHazQBN

    • Most of the waste comes from industrial output and large scale operations. they could easily dev methods. plus research is 100 years ahead with what the publicyurimon

    • Yurimon has a point. The problem isn't really over population. The problem is the system. The waste. The pollution. The fact that we pack in to cities and...set
    • Without giving back. I imagine if everyone had a garden, only ate local produce, did away with plastics and spread out a bit, we could double the populationset
    • The exponential growth is obviously a problem thoughset
    • its not that there wasnt any alternative solution or inventions to limit or get off fossil fuels. the irony is that alternative solution are suppresse for sakeyurimon
