    I think that your emotional response is still informed by logic and facts, however it processes a whole lot of memories, experiences, and immediately perceived details are not consciously recognized. Emotion is a powerful computer.

    However a change to what you do understand consciously can change your emotional response. Imagine you are in a crowd and you feel someone shove you hard from behind. You turn around ready for a confrontation to find an elderly woman has fallen onto the ground and she pushed you by accident. Your feelings of anger immediately turn to sympathy.

    Logically though you should still hit her back, cause she pushed you first!
