Most games tend to get better with more than two players, as there are more things to concider. Another thing always to take into concideration making sure the game isn't too advanced to who you are playing with.

Its a good idea to read or watch a few reviews, either on http://www.shutupandsitdown.com/… Youtube or https://boardgamegeek.com/

If you want something along the lines of Setlers of Catan which is a "build and trade game". you might want to look into

    Suburbia

A city building game, takes a little time to understand but playes really well with two players.

    Carcassonne

Simple tile laying game, trying to construct roads, castles and in the long run farmers in order to score points.

I've also heard Puerto Rico, Caverna: The Cave Farmers, Lords of Vegas and Argicola. I haven't played them personally so can't say.

Some other suggestions not in that style of game would be

    Dead of Winter

Zombie appocalyse where you have to scavenge for food and weapons to survive. It's a semi co-op game, meaning you have to work together, but everyone has a secret objective they need to furfill in order to win.

Its kinda complex and long though.

    Colt Express

Western train robbery game where everyone plans out what they want to do only to see their plan fall appart. Takes a while to assemble but its very easy to teach to all ages and a lot of fun. tallying up who won actually becomes more of an afterthought.
