    My friends and I developed a version of basic Settlers of Catan that can be played with two people.

    All the rules are the same, except:

    • each player starts by placing three settlements, instead of two.
    • play to 14 points, instead of 10. (13 or 15 can work, too)

    This actually works really well, except that trading is a little less fun. It becomes easy to choke out a certain resource if the other player isn't getting it. Also, if one person falls behind, it becomes more difficult to catch up than a 3 or 4 player game would.
