If I had to do over, I'd probably go the Fuji XT-1 route. Maybe a Sony, but Sony doesn't have much glass I like and the lenses will end up being the same size/weight as the Nikon's I have, so almost making it irrelevant that the body is smaller, lighter.
I have a D800 and it's just so damn heavy (with grip), lenses are so damn heavy. I am not even bothering taking it on my next trip (I have a roller suitcase for the lenses, etc., just a pain to take anywhere).
It's superb, though, especially if you will be in the studio most of the time. You can get a used D800 for under $2k, I think.
- I have the X-T1 and love it to bits. Dials and switches for days, once the quick-select buttons are set up you hardly ever take your eye from the viewfinder.face_melter
