Assuming that you don't want to deal with a transmitter, you want Bluetooth headphones. They all suck compared to wired cans as far as sound quality goes, but that's the price you pay for not having wires.
Personally I have a set of Harman Kardon BT which don't sound awful, especially if your iMac supports the newer aptX Bluetooth audio codec (newer ones do). The BT are also comfortable enough to wear all day long. Unfortunately HK no longer makes the BTs.
If I were shopping for Bluetooth headphones today, I'd look at the Harman Kardon Soho, Jabra Revo, and Jabra Move.
