I've lived in New Orleans since 2006 and am from Louisiana. New Orleans is a very unique city. Like any large city there are problems, but I can't imagine living anywhere else.

    Pros:
∙ The amount of culture in this city is almost overwhelming.
∙ Festivals in and around the city almost every weekend, especially during the summer
∙ Unique neighborhoods (Uptown, Midcity, Bywater, Marigny, Irish Channel, Black Pearl, Carrollton, Central City, French Quarter and more) with their own personalites
∙ If you're into the outdoors, you can't beat this area. You can literally go kayaking, crabbing, fishing, hiking or be at the beach in 30 minutes.
    ∙ The food
    ∙ The bars
∙ Definitely a hub for young professionals

There's much more, but this is a good start...

    Cons
    ∙ Inept city government
∙ Your car will probably fall a part from the isanely shitty streets
∙ Depending on where you live, your house and all of it's possessions could be washed away during hurricane season
∙ Crime (really it's about what you'd expect from a large city in my opinion)
∙ Home prices are sky rocketing. But as someone mentioned, there are plenty of places you can find homes, including Metairie and the West Bank. Gentilly is definitely poised for improvement. I actually work in Gentilly.

    • lol i used to joke that the streets enforce the speed limits by themselves. hit a pothole going 45mph and your shit is ruined.sarahfailin
