Don't fuck with your line thicknesses too much - keep em either all the same, or have as few variants as possible, and any variants not being mistakable for one another.
When i used to do these I'd sketch out what I wanted something to look like, then set up a photograph matching my crappy sketch, then trace over that, outlines first, working inwards.
Dotted and dashed lines are your friend.
