House of Cards really gives the viewer the real ugly truth of what politics is really all about. In a nutshell, a politician uses everyone around them in order to get ahead (even their spouses). They will lie, steal, threaten, and even kill in order to get elected and/or maintain power. No matter how you look at it, the government is a void in the free market which is constantly and competitively being filled by dishonest and deceiving individuals with a thirst for power.
However, we should be able to all take a clear point from Season 3, that all politicians should be limited to a single-term. Allowing multiple terms completely clouds the focus of our elected leaders to the point they don't even do their job while they are in office.. or to the point they try to manipulate voters with ill-forged legislation just to get votes. Point is that the whole system skews at the point elected leaders try to get 're-elected'
