for what its worth -- we had a client that was all like "i dont care, have a huge popup and if people dont like it too bad. dont even waste time on cookies". She went from 4000 subs to 15000 in about 6 weeks. this is in New Zealand, so a smallish market - but 15k is a pretty big number for down there, so it obviously doesnt do that much damage. (her sales figures are WAY up thru using said emails too). sometimes we think its going to be more detrimental than it clearly is.
