So I just had a baby boy. My first, and he's 1 month old today. I've been shooting a lot of photos of him like any proud Dad, but my photo gear isn't all that great by QBN'r standards.

I recently bought a Panasonic LUMIX LX7 which I thought I'd be using a lot, but I'm just not loving the actual act of shooting with it all that much.

So instead I'm back to using my Canon Rebel XT DSLR from about 2005. I think it's maybe 8 megapixels max. No image stabilization. I shoot that with the cheap canon 50mm f/1.8 lens for portraits around the house.

Here's the thing though... to my unsophisticated eyes this thing still produces damn good photos! Sure, you can scrutinize the noise at higher ISOs and the overall sharpness, but IMO that's sweating the small stuff. This thing produces usable, quality images at a reasonable size even in low-light situations.

Part of me wants a better DSLR body and a lens with IS, but a bigger part of me wants to use the money on something else.

    • And yes, I'll get around that that "Proud Dads" thread eventually.nocomply

    • Every cheap Canon or Nikon dSLR is capable of excellent photos if you have a good lens (the 50 1.8 is great).nb
    • ... and assuming you know a bit about photography. I always suggest people to buy cheap bodies and spend the money on lenses.nb
