if I had to pick one among the thousand reasons why this is sad it would be either a) society is virtualized to a point that showing some chat protocols proves someone is real, meanwhile he/she never shows up in person or b) people are so fainthearted that they rather rely upon a half-assed online solution instead of growing a pair and just tell the real reason they are single
