  Being an exiled northerner (in London) whenever I go back, I personally head to Didsbury.

  Central Manc. is good, but still a touch on the 'townie' side at night.

  That said my favourite tourist things.

  Drinking in the Northern Quarter.
  Imperial War museum
  A drink in the Lowry hotel
  Harvey nics for lunch
  I'd crawl over hot coals for dinner in Yang Sing http://www.yang-sing.com/
  San Carlo is always good fun...

  Plenty to go at for a weekend. Always get the train to liverpool to look at the Walker gallery
