What if you had the ability to "create a chatroom" and then only people who are subscribed within the vicinity can send/read responses? You would also be able to see and join nearby chatrooms.
That shouldn't ruin the anonymity aspect but might allow you to better tailor it to specific uses. But then again maybe there is another app that already does this, just thinking out loud here...
