Went to a Smashing Pumpkins show in SF a few years ago. The venue made extremely strong efforts to ensure only fans bought tickets and attended, and squashed any chance of ticket scalping. I was so stoked to see this legendary rock group with fans who bought tickets personally.

They started rocking, hard, and as we have done at every rock show for the last 25 years, my friend and I started dancing. We were moving, and we wanted to move closer to the front, and we were hoping to get the crowd going.

Nope, the crowd wasn't having it. They were all concerned only with standing still and taking pictures. It was infuriating, and they pretty much killed the vibe. I was pissed. This is a legendary group and the fans were so, meh.
