All depends on the level of quality you want. You can put an ad up on Craigslist and you'll have 50 in a few days. They all, more or less, look the same. You won't really know until it is over.
I've had so many over promise and under deliver, and I am extremely thorough in my details, storyboard, expectations, etc. That's going to be the case anywhere, people are people - they want the money and opportunity, but when things get difficult they bail.
WP is everywhere, so anyone is going to say they are a WP "developer", when all they can do is minor mods to a template.
