There are many parts to the problem - video games, parents lack of interest, mental stability and access to weapons. All part of the problem. Nothing will get done until there is some accountability and acceptance that ALL of these play a part.

No one can make a reasonable argument that playing first person shooters doesn't desensitize someone to being a "first person shooter". It's practice and roll playing that can blur into reality.

Movies are another facet. The violence, particularly the more heinous movies, further desensitizes society and confuses the youth.

Facebook and others censor nipples, but allow beheadings of women (full videos). That's sending a pretty clear message. America's polarized beliefs and extremists don't help matters.

Guns. They are accessible, therefore they will be used. Period. There simply cannot be a logical argument against that. They serve no purpose but to kill humans (.1% for hunting) and they are very efficient at doing it. Making it a video game for someone that has snapped (no need for a history of mental illness, just a series of bad life events).

Media doesn't help, either, with all the sensationalizing going on. Anyone that thinks about suicide is going to think "shit, I guess I could take my boss out, the girl that dumped me, the bullies..". If you are going to die, you have no fear of repercussions. Guns make it nice and easy to accomplish this with little effort.

There is no one solution, nor one problem. It is a series of issues that must be looked at and discussed, but as long as we have such polarizing extremes and this obsession with "right to own guns", we'll never get anywhere, it will just continue to get worse as the population increases.
